Beached Minke Whale Crane Beach, Ipswich MA 3/17/12.
Mature adult female Minke whale washed ashore on Crane Beach in Ipswich, MA on the morning of Friday 3/16/12. The researchers from the New England Aquarium, NOAA and the State Wildlife Department performed a necropsy and believed her to have been dead for 4-5 days prior to washing ashore. She had scars from a net entanglement on her tail that were several years old, and recent cuts from a boat propeller. The results from the necropsy would determine the cause of death, and whether the propeller incident occurred pre or post mortem.
